This study aims to determine the motivation of graduates who engage in entrepreneurship in Malang City. The background of this research is based on the increasing number of university graduates that is not balanced with sufficient job opportunities, encouraging some of them to enter the entrepreneurial world. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The sampling technique applies purposive sampling with two research subjects, namely graduates who are actively involved in entrepreneurial activities. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations of both subjects’ business practices. The results show that the first subject (BG) chose the catering business because of his passion for cooking and his desire to manage his own time and income independently. Meanwhile, the second subject (BD) was inspired by his family’s business background and holds the principle of “learning by doing.” He believes that business success depends on innovation and the quality of human resources. In conclusion, the motivation of graduates to become entrepreneurs is influenced by internal factors such as interest, passion, and independence, as well as external factors such as environment and economic opportunities. The researcher suggests that universities provide entrepreneurship training to foster motivation and prepare students mentally for self-employment after graduation.
